To check your TSC registration status, open the official status page at tsconline.tsc.go.ke and enter your ID or passport number. The page then shows one of six statuses, and each one tells you where your application stands. This guide explains every status, how long verification takes, and what to do if your status says RESET or REJECTED.

How to check your TSC registration status

The status page is part of the TSC online portal. The steps are:

  1. Open the official status page.
  2. Type your ID or passport number in the box marked Enter ID/Passport No.
  3. Press search.
  4. Read the result that appears after you submit, then match it to the status list below.

Older guides say something different. A 2023 TechCabal guide says the check asks for your TSC number instead of your ID. That conflicts with the 2025 guide and the official page, so this point is unconfirmed. Use your ID or passport number first, and check the official site if the search does not work.

What does each TSC registration status mean?

Each status describes a stage of your application. The table below uses the meanings given in the Kenya Times guide and the Education News Hub guide.

Education News Hub adds that IN PROGRESS means the application has been submitted but not yet checked at the registry. It also says most rejections happen because an applicant does not meet the minimum academic qualification.

Many readers see IN PROGRESS for a long time and wonder if something is wrong. No fixed timeline is published for this stage, so the portal alone will not tell you how long to expect.

How long does it take for TSC registration to be verified?

No source from 2025 or 2026 gives a fixed time for verification. Education News Hub says the duration is not really specified, and it depends on how fast the registry processes applications. Two older sources give other figures, shown below.

The two 2019 statements may not describe the same step, so do not treat them as one rule. Both come from one old article, which makes them unconfirmed for today.

What should I do if my TSC registration status says RESET?

A RESET status means your application has an error. The portal shows the error, and TSC also sends it to you by text message. Once you fix the error, the status goes back to IN PROGRESS, and the application opens for editing again.

Respond quickly to any notice about errors or missing documents. If you need help, phone TSC head office on 0722208552 or 0777208552, or visit your nearest county TSC office.

What happens after my TSC registration is complete?

When your registration succeeds, TSC sends you an SMS, and the SMS carries your TSC number. Your registration certificate is posted to the postal address you gave in your application, so make sure that address is correct before you submit.

Kenya Times says you should also receive a confirmation text, and it advises registered teachers to print their certificate and keep it safe. Our TSC payslip guide covers the next portal you may need.

How much does TSC registration cost, and what documents do I need?

The application fee is Ksh1,055 according to Education News Hub and a 2019 Kenyans.co.ke article. Neither page shows a date, so confirm the amount on the official TSC registration page before you pay. The Education News Hub page names an M-Pesa PayBill, but we do not repeat the number: payment details change, and scammers copy old ones. Pay only to the account the official TSC page shows you.

Can a school employ a teacher who is not registered?

TSC has told school administrators to verify the registration status of teachers before offering them employment. Teaching or employing an unregistered teacher carries a fine of at least Ksh100,000.

Source: People Daily, 2026

In July 2026 TSC removed seven teachers from the register, with effect from 25 February 2026. The removal was published as Gazette Notice No. 10602. A teacher removed from the register cannot be reinstated unless TSC directs otherwise.

What could we not confirm?

These points are unconfirmed. We checked on 26 October 2026, and the sources we could use do not give a clear answer. Check the official TSC site before you act on any of them.

  • Whether the status check uses your ID or passport number or your TSC number. The official page and the 2025 guide say ID or passport.
  • Steps to reset a TSC login password. We found no source.
  • Current login steps for 2026. The only login guidance we found is a 2019 article.
  • What a blank or missing status means. We found no source.
  • Whether a TSC recruitment application was successful, the 2026 promotion list, how to check a promotion status, the new teacher salary, and 2026 news on upgrading. We found no 2026 source for any of these.
  • Whether the 2019 and current fee amounts are the same. The page dates are not confirmed.
  • The official tsc.go.ke homepage and the TSC new teacher FAQ returned no text when we fetched them, so the official FAQ could not be checked.
