Yes. Kenya has international schools, and the clearest example in the sources we checked is Woodcreek School in Kiambu County. Most other schools people search for could not be confirmed, so this guide keeps to what published sources say and marks the gaps as unconfirmed. All facts were checked on 26 October 2026.

Is there an international school in Kenya?
Yes. Woodcreek School is a day and boarding school in Kiambu County for pupils aged 2 to 18. It follows the British national curriculum from early years through high school, and it is accredited by Cambridge Assessment International Education.

The listing is a third-party profile, not the school's own website, and we did not read that website. Its heading gives Nairobi as the location, but its description gives Kiambu County. We have not confirmed which is right, so check the school's official site before you visit.
| Detail | Woodcreek School (third-party listing) |
|---|---|
| Curriculum | British national curriculum, early years to high school |
| Accreditation | Cambridge Assessment International Education |
| Pupils | Aged 2 to 18 |
| Boarding | Day and boarding |
| County | Kiambu, per the description |

We found no other school in Kiambu County that the sources confirm. Searches for Brighton International School Kenya and Trinitas International School returned schools in other countries or nothing, so we have not listed either one.
Which curricula do international schools in Kenya follow?
The sources name several foreign programmes. Daily Nation lists the systems the proposed law would affect, and Tutopiya explains how the national system fits alongside them.
| Curriculum | Where the sources name it |
|---|---|
| British | Daily Nation list of affected programmes; Woodcreek |
| American | Daily Nation list of affected programmes |
| German | Daily Nation list of affected programmes |
| French | Daily Nation list of affected programmes |
| Cambridge IGCSE | Tutopiya's example of a foreign system in the Bill |
| International Baccalaureate (IB) | Daily Nation list of affected programmes |

The CBC and IGCSE systems run in parallel, and the Bill does not merge them.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
Will the new law ban IGCSE schools?
No. The Basic Education Bill 2026 does not ban foreign curricula. It requires approval and registration. Tutopiya reports that the Bill was published on 24 July 2026 and is still at public participation, so nothing changes until it becomes law.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
Under the proposed law, anyone who wants to offer a foreign education system must first get approval from the Education Cabinet Secretary. A foreign-curriculum school could face two checks: approval to offer the foreign system, and registration as a basic education institution. A new school's registration would first be provisional for one year, and it could be renewed for one more year.
Source: Daily Nation, 2026
The clause on foreign curricula is Clause 24 of the Bill, listed as National Assembly Bills No. 50. Public hearings ran from 14 to 25 September 2026 in 31 counties. The Cabinet Secretary would write the regulations on registration, licensing, accreditation and quality assurance of foreign systems.

The name and status of the Bill need checking. Daily Nation calls it the Basic Education Bill, 2025, and it says the Bill is before Parliament. We did not read the official National Assembly record, so confirm the name and status there before you rely on them. This point is unconfirmed.

Does the Kiswahili and Kenyan history rule apply to my child's school?
The Bill itself does not require Kiswahili or Kenyan history in foreign-curriculum schools. That requirement comes from an earlier directive from the Education Cabinet Secretary.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
Capital FM reports that the Cabinet Secretary announced all international schools must teach the History of Kenya and Kiswahili. Schools that do not follow the Kenyan curriculum had until April of the following year to comply. The directive also told the Teachers Service Commission to vet teachers at international schools to check their qualifications.
Source: Capital FM, 2016
The page we read shows no year, so the 2016 date comes from a citation we did not check directly. We found no current Ministry confirmation that the directive still applies. This point is unconfirmed, so ask your child's school whether it follows the requirement.
How much does an international school in Kenya cost?
Fees vary widely. A Tutopiya fee guide gives indicative tuition bands for primary school. These are estimates, not school fee schedules, so use them to set expectations only.
| Band | Indicative annual tuition, primary (KES) |
|---|---|
| Budget | Roughly 400,000 to 800,000 |
| Mid-tier | Roughly 1,000,000 to 1,800,000 |
| Premium | Roughly 2,200,000 to 3,500,000 or more |
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
The same guide says secondary and exam years usually cost more than primary years. It names Kenton College Preparatory, Braeburn School and Peponi School as examples that can sit in the budget band, but it gives no confirmed fee for any of them.

Woodcreek is the only school in our sources with a fee breakdown. Its listing is a third-party profile, not the school's own fee schedule. We did not read a separate 2025/26 page, so the figures below apply to 2026/27 only.
| Woodcreek item (2026/27 listing) | Amount (KES) |
|---|---|
| Annual tuition | 824,000 to 2,337,500 |
| Year 1 tuition, per term | 253,000 |
| Year 13 tuition, per term | 847,500 |
| Registration or admission fee, day students (non-refundable) | 20,000 |
| Registration or admission fee, boarders (non-refundable) | 25,000 |
| Medical emergency cover, per year | 5,000 |

What fees sit outside tuition?
Tuition is only one part of the bill. The fee guide says one-off registration and enrolment fees can be KES 50,000 or more, and they are separate from tuition.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
Board exam fees for IGCSE, IB and A level are not included in tuition. The guide puts them at KES 100,000 or more per exam session.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
The registration fee also depends on where the child sleeps. Woodcreek charges KES 25,000 for boarders and KES 20,000 for day students. Its medical emergency cover of KES 5,000 a year comes on top of tuition.

How do I check that a school is registered?
The Bill would require every institution offering basic education, public or private, to be registered.
Source: Tutopiya, 2026
We did not reach an official Ministry page, so we cannot give confirmed steps for checking registration. Ask the school for its registration details, and check them before you pay any fees. You can read how we compile our own register on the methodology page.

How many schools on the register call themselves international?
Kenya has no official list of "international schools", because the word describes a curriculum and a name, not a legal category. The SchoolRegistry Kenya register can show one thing: how many schools carry "international" or "intl" in their registered name. That count is 96, spread across 32 counties. Nairobi has the most with 13, then Mombasa with 8 and Kakamega with 7.

A name is not proof of curriculum. A school called "international" may teach the Kenyan curriculum, the British IGCSE or the IB. Check the curriculum and the registration status on the school's own page and with the Ministry of Education before you pay any fee.

Questions people ask
How many international schools are there in Kenya?
The number is unconfirmed. A figure we saw in search covers schools in cities worldwide, not Kenya, so we did not use it. For the country-wide picture of all schools, read how many schools there are in Kenya.
Which international school is the cheapest?
We did not find a verified school-by-school comparison, so we cannot name the cheapest school. The fee guide gives price bands, and it names three budget-band examples without confirmed fees. Check each school's current fees directly before you compare.
Is IGCSE better than KCSE?
No source we read compares them, so we cannot say which is better. The two are different systems, and the sources do not rank them. To understand the national exam, read our KCSE grading system guide.
What are the top 10 international schools in Kenya?
We did not find a neutral ranking source, so we have not ranked any schools. A top 10 list would need a source that compares schools on the same measures, and we have not read one.
What are some affordable international schools in Nairobi?
We did not read a Nairobi-specific list, so we cannot name affordable schools there with confirmed fees. The fee guide names three budget-band examples but does not give their fees. Use the bands above as a rough guide only.
What international schools are in Kiambu?
Only Woodcreek School is confirmed in Kiambu County. Its description gives the county, but its heading says Nairobi, so check the school's official site. We did not read any other list of Kiambu schools.
What are the top 5 secondary schools in Kenya?
We did not find a ranking source for secondary schools, so we cannot name a top five. You can search every school on the schools page and compare the entries yourself.
