You check KPSEA results on the KNEC site at kpsea.knec.ac.ke by entering the candidate's Assessment Number and at least one name. Techweez reports that over 1.3 million Grade 6 learners can now access their 2025 KPSEA reports. The pages we read do not give the exact release day for the 2025 results, so treat any release date you see online as unconfirmed until KNEC publishes it.

When will KPSEA results be released?
The 2024 KPSEA reports came out on 7 January 2025. The Star says those results were uploaded on a Tuesday to the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal. The 2025 KPSEA and KILEA results have been released since then, but the pages we read do not say which day they came out. The table below puts the two cycles side by side.

How do I check KPSEA results online?
Parents and candidates use the lookup at kpsea.knec.ac.ke. The site asks for the Assessment Number and at least one name, and it will not search until you accept the privacy and access notice. Our check of the live portal did not return readable text, so the steps below come from published guides. Schools use a different site, the CBA portal, which is covered in the next section.

| Who | Where to go | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Parents and candidates | kpsea.knec.ac.ke | The individual result, after entering the Assessment Number and a name |
| Schools | cba.knec.ac.ke | Detailed learner reports, which can be downloaded and printed |
| KILEA candidates | Their own school | A printed report collected from school, because results are not online for individual candidates |

How to check your child's KPSEA result

- Enter the candidate's Assessment Number.
- Enter at least one of the candidate's names.
- Accept the privacy and access notice.
- Search for the result.

Where do schools get the full learner report?
Schools log in to the CBA portal at cba.knec.ac.ke to see learner-specific reports. Once logged in, a user searches for results and selects the download option to save the report. A school needs its login to get in, and a forgotten password blocks access to the learner reports. KNEC has also opened the CBA portal for candidates to reach their 2025 results.

Schools print the results, which come in certificate form, and hand them to parents and candidates at no cost. The government paid the assessment fees for learners in both public and private schools, and non-citizen candidates paid Sh750.

Do KPSEA results decide where a child goes in Grade 7?
KNEC's CEO said the results would not be used to place candidates in junior secondary schools. They are there to monitor learner progress. Arena also reports that parents can use the KPSEA results to transfer a child to another junior school, so the sources do not fully agree on how the results are used.

Grade 6 pupils move on to Grade 7 in the same primary school they are already in. KPSEA learners are not ranked, according to The Star.

How is the KPSEA score worked out?
This is unconfirmed. The sources give different weightings, and checked on 26 October 2026 we could not settle the question from an official KNEC document. The Star says the KPSEA counts for 20 percent of a learner's score, combined with a 60 percent summative evaluation at the end of Grade 9. Techweez says 60 percent of the KPSEA score comes from teachers' continuous assessment in Grades 4 to 6, and the other 40 percent from the national exam KNEC sets at the end of Grade 6.

What if the KPSEA portal is slow or not opening?
Some readers report the portal is very slow or not opening, according to comments on the Arena page. If that happens, try again later. The KNEC website at www.knec.ac.ke lists circulars and a service page for queries based on results, so check there if you need help.

KILEA candidates are the exception. Results are not published online for individual KILEA candidates, so they must collect their performance reports directly from their schools.

What do the KPSEA reports show?
KNEC said it would release three KPSEA reports: individual, school-level and national.
Source: Arena, 13 January 2026
Techweez says the KPSEA reports help schools and parents understand where learners excel and where they need support.

KNEC's website also lists a document called KPSEA Regulations and a KPSEA-KJSEA user guide. Parents who want the official rules for the assessment should read those documents before relying on a summary from a news site.

Is there a 2026 KPSEA?
KNEC has published a circular on registration of candidates for the 2026 KPSEA and KILEA. The circular is the step that comes before the exam, so schools and parents should check it for the registration rules.
Source: KNEC, 2026
This is unconfirmed. The 2026 sitting dates are not in any page we read. Checked on 26 October 2026, the KNEC homepage shows the registration circular but does not give the dates, so check the official site for the timetable before you plan around it.
