Regular students pay Ksh 82,200 in Year 1 under the 2025/2026 fee structure, and that is the newest fee schedule found on the pages checked on 26 October 2026. KMTC runs its programmes for three student groups: regular, East African and foreign. The fee gap between those groups is large, so check which group applies to you before you plan a budget.

This guide covers the fees, programme lengths, entry grades and intakes that KMTC's own documents and two news reports confirm. Where a detail is not confirmed, the text says so and tells you where to check.

How much is KMTC per semester?

Tuition is the main cost, and it is charged each semester. A regular student pays Ksh 15,000 in each semester of Year 1, which makes Ksh 30,000 for the year. East African students pay Ksh 35,000 in each semester of Year 1, and foreign students pay Ksh 100,000 in each semester of Year 1.

Higher Diploma students pay a total of Ksh 132,200 in Year 1. The Higher Diploma in Palliative Nursing Care totals Ksh 147,500 in fees.

Other charges sit outside tuition, so the amount you pay will be higher than tuition alone. The main extras for regular students are listed below.

ChargeAmountHow it is charged
Registration feeKsh 2,000Year 1
Processing feeKsh 1,500Year 1
Student identity cardKsh 700Year 1

A simple way to plan is to add up the tuition for each semester, the Year 1 charges and any hostel cost you expect. That total gives a clearer picture than tuition alone, and it helps you compare your options before you choose a campus.

Short courses have their own prices. The HIV Training and Counseling course lasts 3 weeks full time and costs Ksh 24,500. The Safe Phlebotomy course takes 5 days full time and costs Ksh 20,000. The Health Care Assistant course lasts 1 year and costs Ksh 82,200.

Fees for Year 2 and Year 3 of the Higher Diploma are unconfirmed, and so are fees for the short courses not listed above. No 2026/2027 fee schedule was published on the pages checked on 26 October 2026. Budget with the 2025/2026 figures and confirm the rest on the official site at kmtc.ac.ke. For a wider plan, see the school fees budget calculator.

Two of these programmes run for 2 years, and three run for 3 years. The Higher Diploma route is covered in the application section below, because upgrading and Higher Diploma applicants use a different portal from pre-service applicants. For the exact length of a course you want, check the KMTC official website before you commit.

How to apply for KMTC self-sponsored students?

KMTC does not offer self-sponsored (parallel) programmes, so there is no self-sponsored route to apply through. Applicants use one of two routes, and the route depends on the programme they want.

Pre-service courses are applied for through the KUCCPS portal. The pre-service application fee is Ksh 1,550, and the deadline is the one given in the KUCCPS advertisement. Read the KUCCPS application guide for the placement steps.

In-service, upgrading and Higher Diploma applications go through the KMTC admissions portal. The in-service application fee is Ksh 2,072, paid by M-Pesa. Upgrading and Higher Diploma applicants can apply at any time while the intake is open, as long as their course is not full.

The two fees above are both published, but the FAQ does not say which one applies to a given intake. That point is unconfirmed, so check the official site before you pay.

KMTC opened applications for the September 2026 intake in July 2026. Pre-service applicants for that intake had until August 11, 2026 to apply through the KUCCPS Student Portal, so that deadline has passed as of 26 October 2026.

The March 2026 intake ran on KUCCPS from January 7 to January 27, 2026. It offered 21,774 places across 36 Diploma and Certificate programmes.

The September 2026 intake will open to the 2025 KCSE cohort in later phases. KUCCPS applications are submitted online, and physical KCSE certificates or result slips are not required.

Students placed at KMTC through KUCCPS can apply for HELB funding, provided they are placed through KUCCPS. The HELB loans guide explains that process in more detail.

Submitting an application does not guarantee admission, because places are limited. Students can change their campus and course online through the KMTC admissions portal, subject to availability. Not every campus offers every course, so applicants may be placed at any campus that offers their course.

KMTC also warns the public to ignore unofficial admission notices and fake admission posters. Short courses are applied for online through the KMTC portal.

The reporting dates for the September 2026 intake and the closing date for in-service applications were not found on the pages checked. Check the KMTC admissions portal or the official site for them.
