Lesson plan generator for CBC teachers
A free CBC lesson plan layout you fill in on screen, with lesson development in steps. Print it or download it as Word. Your draft stays in your own browser and nothing is sent to us. We are not TSC or KICD, and we found no single official format, so edit it to match your school's.

Write your lesson plan
Copy the strand, sub-strand and specific learning outcomes from the KICD curriculum design for your grade and learning area. In each development step, say what the learners do, not only what you do. Plan the whole term first with the scheme of work generator.

Lesson plan, scheme of work, lesson notes and record of work
The TSC checklist of professional documents names them as separate items, and says records of work should be checked weekly (Education News Hub). A scheme of work plans the term, and a lesson plan details one lesson.

Questions people ask
- What is a lesson plan?
- A lesson plan gives the detail for one lesson, while a scheme of work is the long-range plan for the term. One CBC guide notes that a lesson plan is not the same document as a scheme of work or lesson notes, and the TSC checklist lists lesson plans, lesson notes and records of work as separate documents.
- What sections should a CBC lesson plan have?
- Guides disagree: one lists eight required sections and another lists eleven, and we found no official TSC or KICD document that sets one number. The layout in this tool covers the sections most guides share: details and roll, strand, sub-strand, specific learning outcomes, key inquiry question, learning resources, introduction, lesson development in steps, conclusion, extended activities, assessment and reflection.
- Do I need a lesson plan for every lesson?
- One commercial guide says each lesson needs its own lesson plan with specific learning outcomes for that session. We did not find an official rule on this, so ask your head teacher what your school requires.
- What do quality assurance officers reject most?
- One guide says the most common rejection is teacher-centred wording in the development section. Describe what the learners do in each step as well as what the teacher does. The same guide says heads of department often complain when learning outcomes are reworded instead of copied from the curriculum design.
- Do lesson plans count for TPAD?
- A 2026 report on the revised TPAD says lesson plans, teaching resources and assessment records should be kept up to date through the term, and that a score alone is not enough because ratings must be backed by evidence. Check how your account asks for evidence.
- Is the format the official KICD format?
- No. We are not KICD, and we found no single official lesson plan format. This is a common CBC layout that you can edit. If your school has its own format, download the Word file and adjust it.
- Does the tool save my plan or send it anywhere?
- It remembers your draft in this browser only. Nothing is sent to us. Use Clear when you start a new plan, and a private window on a shared computer.
- Can I get a ready-made example?
- Not yet. Ready-made lessons need the KICD strands and outcomes, which we are asking KICD for permission to include. Until then the tool gives you the layout and you add the content.
